Education, Outreach, and
Promoting water education, outreach, and stewardship is an important goal for PWP. Since its inception, PWP has played an active role in developing educational curriculum to support water conservation efforts for K-12 students and adults.
In the past several years, PWP has hosted sessions for K-12 students at the Trinidad Water Festival, Branson-Trinchera Youth Conservation Day, and Trinidad Lake State Park Youth Summer Camp. We have taught lessons on conserving water at home and river ecology.
PWP has partnered with other organizations, like City of Trinidad Parks and Recreation Board and Purgatoire Watershed Weed Management Collaborative, to host workshops for a wide range of issues, from building outdoor recreation in Trinidad to managing noxious weeds in the watershed. We have also attended and presented at different forums and conferences across the state, including the 2017 Paonia River Workshop and 2018 Arkansas River Basin Forum, to build statewide support for the organization.
Lastly, PWP doesn't just talk the talk, but we also walk the walk. We regularly participate in river clean-ups along the Purgatoire River and host invasive species workdays, where we lead a group of volunteers into the field to remove overgrown weeds along the river.
It is a goal of PWP's to cultivate a sense of responsibility and stewardship towards the natural resources of the Purgatoire River Watershed. To do so, we are actively working to build a community around the river that values the water and all that it provides to the people of the Purgatoire Watershed.
