Community Wildfire Protection
Decades of unmanaged forest land in the Upper Watershed has led to unhealthy forests and the serious threat of catastrophic wildland fire. In 2014, the Stonewall Fire Protection District (SFPD) in partnership with other organizations, including PWP and the Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS), created the Community Wildfire Protection Plan. Subsequently, the City of Trinidad, SFPD and CSFS have been busy implementing proactive fire mitigation plans, reducing the threat of wildfire in the Upper Watershed and protecting the drinking water supply for much of the watershed.
